More About This Experience

Some of Yogyakarta's most unique dishes can be found in the wee hours of the morning in and around traditional local markets. It's no wonder that we find our guests so pleasantly surprised to discover these dishes not typically found at other times of the day. This one-of-a-kind tour begins at 7 am (or earlier upon request) at the fringes of a traditional market. The tour carves its way in and out of the market, through narrow and sometimes crowded alleyways, but always stopping by at different vendors to sample a wide array of morning delicacies. From instagram famous stall that sells Cakwe (Chinese style fried churros) to another selling five different varieties of porridge, both of the sweet and savoury kind, to the more ubiquitous gudeg, this culinary adventure is filled with surprises and sure to please your taste buds. A hearty breakfast awaits! And for those that need their dose of cuppa in the morning, we have a special brew for you too! ;)

Additional Information:

  • Pick-up point: The exact pick-up location address will be sent to your email immediately after your booking
  • Pick-up venue: Close to Tugu, a central landmark of Yogyakarta
  • Please be at the meeting point 10 minutes before the tour begins
  • Since this is a walking tour, comfortable shoes are recommended
  • Loose fitting trousers because we're going to feed you well ;)
  • If you have any dietary preferences/restrictions, please let us know in the message section while making the booking
  • At the end of the tour, guests are required to arrange their own transport back to their hotel (our guides can help to arrange the transport for you)
  • Note: During the fasting month of Ramadan, not all stalls maybe open for this tour

I thought the evening food tour was great then did the breakfast tour. The food was even better. The dishes were completely different. I would recommend doing both tours.

Oscar our host was very enthusiastic & shared some fabulous local tradition with us. The choice of local food we experienced was diverse & certainly unlike what we had experienced with previous holidays. We did however have trouble finding meeting place, so suggest perhaps being able to contact host directly.

Rama was so friendly and knowledgable, both about local Jogja food but also about history and current social issues. The dishes he selected were quite interesting. Having run quite a few food tours in China myself, I appreciated his pacing, dish selection, and tour formatting.

Loved it, tasty food and let us try things we never would have otherwise. We got to sample some traditional foods that are harder to find now.
