More About This Experience
With the same team of professional climbers and rangers who bring you our popular 'Summiting Merapi Tour', you now have the opportunity to hike with us Merapi's sister volcano, Mount Merbabu.
While Merapi certainly has a rich appeal among hiking enthusiasts, Merbabu offers a distinct experience unlike anything offered by other mountains in Java. Its uniqueness comes in the form of its changing landscape as you ascend up the mountain - from dense jungle foliage to its characteristic slopes blanketed by lush savannah landscapes, the mountain has much to offer in the way of natural beauty. In our opinion, Merbabu is certainly more charismatic than Merapi, its more uncompromising & calloused counterpart.
It is true that the hike up to the summit of Merbabu is gradual and gentle and takes on average 5 - 6 hours to reach the summit (faster hikers have done it in 4 hours). Once on the summit, the panoramic views of the surrounding landscapes are breathtaking and the sight of Mount Merapi right next door is as imposing and captivating as it is striking!
This tour is designed together with local rangers and guides that have worked in the mountain since they were little boys. Summiting the mountain on an average of 1 -2 times a week, the guides we work with, under the supervision of veteran climber and ranger Mr. Suroto, are well trained, experienced and know the mountain very well!
