More About This Experience
Let Tuk Tuk Safari take you on an insider's safari around Vientiane. We'll take you off the beaten path to a few places that only locals know to get to know more about Laos and Vientiane, and experience the everyday lives of Lao people.
After being picked up by our tuk tuk, we'll take you for one of our favourite sweet snacks kao larm (sticky rice and coconut snack roasted in bamboo tubes). You'll see how this delicious snack is made with one of the most famous kao larm cooks in Laos and of course get to sample some too! Then you'll visit a local fresh food market to check out the amazing diversity of Lao food, and observe the market activity with a traditional Lao coffee.
Then sneak a peek into the workshop of a family-run silversmith producing intricate traditional and modern pieces. See how these pieces are formed and how this traditional craft is being continued in the family. For lunch, get behind the scenes in the kitchen of a popular local restaurant that provides training and support for street youth, and then relax and enjoy the delicious Lao lunch you have seen being prepared.
After lunch head off to the COPE Visitors Centre where you will get to know more about the ongoing challenges with unexploded ordinance (UXO) that Lao people face on a daily basis. Learn about the amazing and inspirational activities that support people affected by UXOs. Then it's time to go to temple where you'll learn to make mak beng and pasaat peung, traditional Lao Buddhist banana leaf and wax flower offerings to take to Wat Simueang, one of the city's most popular local temples, and learn more about Lao Buddhist traditions.
