More About This Experience

Let Tuk Tuk Safari take you on an insider's safari around Vientiane. We'll take you off the beaten path to a few places that only locals know to get to know more about Laos and Vientiane, and experience the everyday lives of Lao people. After being picked up by our tuk tuk, we'll take you for one of our favourite sweet snacks kao larm (sticky rice and coconut snack roasted in bamboo tubes). You'll see how this delicious snack is made with one of the most famous kao larm cooks in Laos and of course get to sample some too! Then you'll visit a local fresh food market to check out the amazing diversity of Lao food, and observe the market activity with a traditional Lao coffee. Then sneak a peek into the workshop of a family-run silversmith producing intricate traditional and modern pieces. See how these pieces are formed and how this traditional craft is being continued in the family. For lunch, get behind the scenes in the kitchen of a popular local restaurant that provides training and support for street youth, and then relax and enjoy the delicious Lao lunch you have seen being prepared. After lunch head off to the COPE Visitors Centre where you will get to know more about the ongoing challenges with unexploded ordinance (UXO) that Lao people face on a daily basis. Learn about the amazing and inspirational activities that support people affected by UXOs. Then it's time to go to temple where you'll learn to make mak beng and pasaat peung, traditional Lao Buddhist banana leaf and wax flower offerings to take to Wat Simueang, one of the city's most popular local temples, and learn more about Lao Buddhist traditions. Tuk Tuk Safari is a brilliant idea!!! We spent nearly 8 hours savoring a genuine and lively encounter with the people and sights of Vientiane. Special sticky rice making, meticulous silver fabrication from start to finish, market surprises and wonders, COPE the center for orthotics and prosthesis -so very well done!, lunch at one of the best places, and then... Making and presenting an offering at Vientiane's premier wat..... Almost too much fun to be educational ;-) Ere is a super tour guide with lots of insider tips and just the right kind of commentary for the visitor. He is in tune with his clients! I will take this Live Like a Lao for a Day again, and can't wait to try some of the other tours on offer. I heartily recommend this tour for anyone who wants to get close to the pulse of Laos. This is a great outing for tourists as well for folks like me who have been in Laos for some time. 5 stars*****

Definitely the best way to see Vientiane. I did the Live a Lao Day tour, and we did all the highlights you would expect, plus some hidden gems. Our group was a little slow at getting around, but our guide was wonderful - he politely prompted us and didn't complain that we made him very late back. An excellent day out, and there is nothing that I would recommend changing!

Thank you Ere for an amazing day out and a wonderful tour. We saw so much yet did not feel rushed at all. I great way to see Vientiane if you have limited time. My visitors had a great time and I will book this trip again for future visitors.

Thanks Ere for a fantastic tour of Vientiane that gave us a true insight from a well respected local. Great value for money trip around the capital of Laos, which included a sumptuous lunch and provided us with an understanding of the Vientiane culture. Your personalised professional service was above reproach with your care and respect on the streets ensuring our safety and enjoyment. Highly recommend this authentic tour offering an understanding of the history of the hospitable Lao people, enlightening the efforts and much needed awareness of the COPE centre.

I did a Live Lao for One Day tour and it was awesome. It was a genuine, local experience - we went to places and took part in activities that I never would have been able to find or do on my own. Highly recommended for those looking for something different, and authentic, to do in Vientiane.
