More About This Experience

Water blessings are a traditional Cambodian practice that date back to ancient times. The blessings take place in an ancient pagoda in the countryside, just south of Siem Reap. Receive a blessing of your own during this water blessing experience at the Wat Bo Banteay Chey Pagoda. The first blessing involves vessels of blessed water being poured over your head while the monks chant harmoniously as they wish you good luck, safe travel, and a long life. Following that you will change into dry clothes and sit with the monk inside the pagoda accompanied by a light sprinkling of water. At the end of the blessing, your wrist is adorned with special red ties that signify the blessing performed.

Additional Information:

  • Pick-up and drop-off service is included in this tour. You will be asked to enter your pick up address during checkout
  • Bring an extra set of dry clothes to change into after the water blessing
  • Dress code: Strictly to cover shoulders and knees
  • Bring a camera so that your host can take pictures while you are receiving the blessing

The water blessing ceremony portion was good. We didn’t get to speak with the monk which was disappointing. Also, the host took us to a market around 10:30 and there was barely any vendors and it was small and uneventful. I don’t understand why this wouldn’t be the first thing we did since he said around 9:00am it is busy. We didn’t get the light refreshment because everything looked like it was rotting with flies on it and barely anyone was selling anything.

Great experience, fantastic introduction to the history of buddha, a meditation session and water blessing. Definitely worth doing for an activity beyond just viewing the temples. Especially good considering the gentleman who took the tour used to be a monk himself
