Batik is a resist dye technique that was created by wax motifs. Hmong people in Laos have been practiced these incredible skills since hundred years ago. The skills have been passed down from generations to another especially from mother to daughter. Batik is applied on household, clothes and for many ceremonies purposes. Hmong people live in small villages in Northern of Laos. Many Hmong people believe that if you are a good batik creator, you will be a good wife because you can make good and beautiful clothes for family members. You can find beautiful batik pattern on many things like shirts, skirts, jackets, bags, scarves, hats, cushion covers, wall hangings, bedspreads, table runners, napkins, and so much more. They are easily bought from many shops in Laos. But what about making one yourself? What could be a better way to do that by joining our workshop and learn the skill? In this workshop, you will learn to create your own unique batik piece from the traditional methods. There are 2 options that you can apply to design you work such as the stamps and hot wax tools made by copper. The stamps were designed in different shapes like flower, elephant, horse, rooster, insect etc. Note: It takes one day to dry, so if you take the morning class, you will get it on the evening if the weather is dry, otherwise, it should be ready for you to collect it in the next morning.
