You will learn the basics of batik or shibori and explore the process of preparation of hand-dyed textiles. At the end, you will take home your own personalised Batik Boutique product. Choose your technique (only 1 technique per class): SHIBORI ITAJIME (min 4 pax, max 25 pax) An ancient dyeing technique which produces patterns on fabric. The fabric is placed between two pieces of wood, or tied with rubber bands. When dyeing the fabric, the barriers prevent the dye from penetrating the fabric they cover, resulting in various unique patterns throughout the fabric. BATIK: CANTING OR BLOCKING (min 4 pax, max 12 pax) A wax-resist dyeing technique whereby patterns or lines are drawn or stamped with hot wax with a spouted tool or block. The applied wax resists dyes and therefore allows the artisan to color selectively by soaking the cloth in one color, and removing the wax with boiling water, ultimately creating beautiful designs and patterns.
