There is something magical about riding in the Night time. Kathmandu by day is a busy, crowded city full of visual stimulation. Sometimes its nice to switch off from the Hulla Bulla (Noise and distractions) and ride off into the sunset so to speak. At night time on the fringes of the Jungle along the Kathmandu Valley Rim, we ride a network of single tracks and walking paths. We ride about 3km through the city and climb uphill for 3 km on a gentle paved road along the edge of the jungle. From here we ride along single tracks with the valley views stretching out below us. An ocean of lights below us forming a tranquil halo above the Chaotic city. It gives us a chance to fill our lungs with fresh air and watch the moon playing hid and seek with the rain clouds. The descent is long and fast as we weave through villages and back to the city. Riding seems easier at night, the air chilled and fresh. The climbs seem less steep and long. Our focus is only on the funnel of light in front of our bikes. There are no distractions, we just ride. To finish the night off we head to our favorite Momo Shop to sample these delicious local delicacies.
