More About This Experience

Kathmandu really comes to life through her markets, and this is something even the residents of this beautiful city can't get enough of. Whether it's a never ending row of colourful shop houses selling a multitude of fabrics and garments, or that distinct smell of a spice bazaar that hits the senses all at once. And of course, this picture perfect portrayal of a Kathmandu market scene would be incomplete without the customary random stray cow, so go ahead and imagine that too. :p Jokes aside, navigating the narrow alleys (most without any street names or markers) of this ancient city can be a daunting task for anyone who's here for the first time. While a wanderer may derive pleasure at the idea of getting himself lost among the chaos and colour, same can't be said for those looking to go on a shopping spree in Kathmandu. And this is why we have taken it upon ourselves to design this shopping tour for anyone who wants to get the best value for their money and also not have to bump into too many cows. You have to select 3 sections from the list below and our shopaholic team will custom design the tour based on your selection: 1. Garments and Fabric (Cashmere/Pashmina/Wool) 2. Food and Spices 3. Jewellery (Traditional Nepali Jewellery) 4. Metal and Brass-ware 5. Traditional Attire (Saree/Dhaka/Bhoto) 6. Handicraft Products (Paper lanterns, Wood Carvings, Stone Carvings) If you have any special request then do drop us a line and we'll do our level best to incorporate it in the tour. :) Please note that if you have selected an add on for pick up then we use local taxis.

Additional Information:

  • Since this is a walking tour comfortable shoes are recommended
  • Bring Nepalese Rupees in cash as most shops will not accept credit cards
  • Remember to send us the three categories you're interested in so we can customise the tour accordingly
  • At the end of the tour guests are required to arrange their own transport.
  • If you have any special request then please let us know, and we will try out best to incorporate it in your tour
  • Recommended to carry umbrella/poncho during rainy season (June-Sep)
  • Exact pick-up location address along with map direction will be sent to your email instantly after booking
  • Be at the pick up location at the tour start time.

A wonderful afternoon! I did this tour solo and I came prepared with a list of items I was interested in bringing back for myself and various friends/family. My guide Namrata helped me get all of them within a comfortable time frame and under budget!

Well paced, relaxed and fun afternoon; given independence to shop, yet supported with information on products and help with translations; enjoyed hearing different stories as we walked, chatted and photographed our way around stalls, shops and temples - very highly recommended

I had a very great tour for the shopping - even though I’m not much of a shopper I really enjoyed seeing Thamel and the local markets - and learning about the culture and everything about the city .

Our guide Aarzoo was simply wonderful! Upon meeting her, she greeted us warmly and was extremely kind. She did a fantastic tour of the main area, Thamel, and provided good info on where we were and helped us navigate the different parts of the city. It was such a pleasure meeting her, and we highly recommend Backstreet Academy!
