More About This Experience

This is the legendary food that Nepalis eat all day all night all year-long. The quintessential staple, this dish comes with rice, lentils soup, curry chicken, cauliflower with potato and a special chutney concoction that will fire up your taste buds. Learn what makes the Nepalis tick through this course! Everyone cooks this staple in their family favored tradition so you might get very different tastes across households! The trick is in the spices and their proportions. Dal Bhat usually comes together with 2 other main dishes, a meat curry and a vegetable dish, usually cauliflower with potatoes. Then you cook the lentils soup with a secret procedure that you'll find out! Finally the chutney made of roasted tomatoes, garlic, coriander is the icing no one goes without! Her son met us at the main road and showed us the house and joined in with the cooking too which was great. She is a thorough and patient teacher who is very organised and... Read more

A calm and experienced cooking lesson provided me with insights into the daily life of the Nepali people. This was in an area completely different from the hustle and bustle of Thamel, more laid back and residential (so to speak) resting in the "backstreets" of Kathmandu. The preparation of the ...
