More About This Experience

This fishing activity will take place along the picturesque and peaceful village of Kim Dong, here the traditional Vietnamese features of a typical village are still maintained. The river that runs by this village is the Thu Bon, on which your host Mr. Tran Gai will take you on his boat for the fishing trip. As much as you will enjoy the fishing, be sure to soak in the scenery as you will also get to see village roads that wind around the many houses and corn fields on either side of the river. As you move along the river, you will also notice the communities that live on the edge of the river and how they go about their lives. The general rhythm of life in this village is one where most of the locals are involved either in fishing or farming and Mr. Tran will be showing you how to do something he does almost daily - fishing with a net. Patience is the name of the game, of course but with Mr. Tran by your side it's more about how much you catch and not how long you wait! ;) A word of caution here that, when you take the fish out of the net, the sharp fins of the fish could potentially be painful if not held correctly. And finish your trip with a tasty light dish from your fishes. Have it in a local way with your new friends! NOTE: Our host uses small local wooden fishing boats which can carry 3-4 people. For a bigger groups he can arrange 2 boats. Also please inform us your weight in advance so that we can make the arrangement for you.

Additional Information:

  • Life jackets will be provided but please be aware of your personal safety
  • Exact pick-up location address along with map direction will be sent to your email instantly after booking
  • Be at the pick up location at the tour start time

I had a great afternoon fishing - we went out in a boat and used a net to fish, pulling up a bowl full of fish (under the watchful eye of a nearby water buffalo). I got to try some fresh spring rolls with grilled fish and salad. The local family were all very welcoming, and my guide Diep went out of his way to assist with transport and helped make it a great afternoon.

Fantastic & unique experience. We were 2 adults & 2 8/10 yr old boys, we had a blast ! 2 of us in each boat with the fisherman in one and his wife in the other, we had a competition to see which boat caught the most fish, the fisherwomans team won with 50+ while we caught 40, not bad for an afternoons fun on the river ! We BBQ'd the fish back at their family house and ate fresh fish spring rolls. Wonderful excursion with a real Vietnamese family.

This was a brilliant experience and am so glad I was recommended the website otherwise I wouldn't have had the experience I did with them. The English speaking guide arranged everything and took us to a small fishing village just outside Hanoi on his motorbike. We then met our hosts who we would go fishing with. We were invited into their home and then went fishing. Me and my friend took it in turns to cast the net and reel it in, checking for any fish we caught. Then after we grilled some fish in their home surrounded by neighbours and family members. We tried local specialities- some unknown to even myself and the guide haha, snails and sauces to go with the fish, and then after a good feast, we left. I felt like I got to see the true Vietnam here on this tour. Completely not touristy. No other tourist in sight. Was simply amazing. Highly recommend.

The pace of life seemed to slow down as I sat with an elderly fisherman on his boat learning how to fish by the net. There wasn't much communicating directly with the host, but the translator did much to explain a lot of the background and context of fishing and the surrounding villages and how they lived of the land and waters that ran along their villages. My first few attempts at the net was embarrassing to say the least, but quickly with the help of the host I managed to get the form and throw right pretty quickly and even managed to make a few catches which was pretty encouraging. :) I enjoyed the activity, its got the right mix of adventure and relaxation. I'd have loved to go back to spend another morning with the host!
