Vietnam has many attractions but most of them just for sight-seeing. In there, You could make heaps of leather stuffs by yourself with a reasonable price. If you have time and prefer experiencing activities, we recommend DIY Box is an ideal place for you in Hanoi.
Born and raised in the Hanoi capital, the center of Vietnamese culture and traditional handicrafts. Dzung is founder of DIY Box graduated as IT-Software engineer, but fall in love with hand-crafts as a child. He started to learn handmade leather by him-self from 2013, and he decided to start plan of his life with the material. Came to the realization in 2014, the workshop was an place where everyone can come & have experience, to know or understanding how does artisan make excellent handicrafts. They hope the crafts will be preserved and honored all over the world.
The workshop is located in a small alley with cozy atmosphere near the historical vestiges B-52 wreckage. From DIY Box, you can take 10 minutes by motor-bike or taxi to Hoan Kiem Lake ? the heart of Hanoi, 5 minutes by steps to Vietnam Military history museum of fighter plane or 10 minutes to Ho Chi Minh museum, eventful part of Doi Can street where you can find trully Vietnamese street foods, coffee and feel the heartbeat of Hanoi. Being convenient are ensured.
For DIY a leather goods, it may take 2-3 hours to finish a small product by a beginner. If you don't have time, I think you still can come and pick something as souvenir <3
It doesn't matter if you have any idea of what you want to make or not, The friendly staff are always willing to help you with valuable advice. However in order not to put yourself in a confusing situation (you may feel like making everything :D), you should prepare some samples you like, and also remember to bring a lot of patience, since it will take a long time to complete your DIY leather work.
Spending half day with the workshop will certainly give you a relaxing time when you can chat with the staffs about leather work while making leather goods. Also you have an opportunity to attaining new knowledge, broadening your horizons, and learning in ways you didn't expect or imagine.
