More About This Experience
Most travelers come to Hanoi salivating from tales they've heard about the culinary wonders the city has to offer. For most, the quest begins heroically, but alas, is seldom realized. The rich and diverse cuisine offered by Hanoi would take way longer than one can fit into an itinerary. So if you're a foodie looking to explore Hanoian cuisine and are short of time, you need a plan of action - and this foodie's tour is just that plan.
We'll start you off with a cooking class by Mrs Hang. A passionate home cook who delights in playing host to all who grace her charming house in a backstreet neighborhood of a busy Hanoi street. The class will be accompanied with a visit to a local market. Here you will get a true taste of some of Hanoi's classic dishes. Choose one dish from the menu listed below.
We will then move to a hidden away cafe near Hanoi's west lake where throngs of locals gather for that time in the day when they're most relaxed - sipping coffee of every variety. This age old cafe housed in a derelict colonial building roast their own coffee, thus if your palette agrees with the coffee here, you can purchase the beans.
Next is a dish that we should keep as a surprise. It's quintessentially Vietnamese yet not found everywhere. Its a special treat. All we can say is, be prepared! ;)
We will then headed back to the old quarters to sample the best the markets and streets has to offer. We'll treat this part of the adventure like a city scale buffet, moving from the late afternoon rice porridge lady in one street to the golden crispy pillow cakes stall in another. You'll be able to sample a great many of the local favorites. In between we've also added an opportunity to shop for local delights of the sweet and savory kind that will make the perfect gift to take back home.
Onward into the evening, we'll end of the tour in a classic Hanoian fashion, yupe, fresh and chilled local bia hoi with local "beer snacks'.
