Total classes: 6 Days Number of hour per class: 3 hours Time: 9 am - 12 pm Set of tools provided and used: Paper (size 40 x 60 cm) Brush (10 different sizes) Ink Ink-box Note: You can join his regular classes with other students if you prefer If it is during festival time, you also can join host with some of his word-giving days. Day 1: Introduction + Basic Class 9 am - 9.30 am: Our facilitator will pick you up at pickup location and introduce you to your host. 0.30 - 10.30 am: Host will introduce calligraphy history, how it came from China and development in Vietnam through ancient alphabets and modern alphabets. Also introduce necessary tools (paper, brush, ink, ink box, brush scroll, scrolls?), history and development of each tool, different types of tools and how to choose good ones. You will be given a full set of tools for the course. You can keep this during the course to practice at class and at home. First you will use a brush and paint anything so that host can see at what level you are to teach you accordingly. 10.30 am - 12 pm: You start to learn how to hold and control the brush, as well as the accurate way to put it in the ink. Once you can use brush well, host will demonstrate a basic class with all 3 types (Chinese words, ancient words and Latin alphabets) for about 30 mins. After that you will learn to paint 3 basic strokes in details. Homework: Practice 3 strokes Day 2: Continue practicing 3 basic strokes and apply to the alphabets. 9 am - 9.30 am: Host will check your homework and give feedbacks. 9:30 - 112 pm: Demonstrate how these strokes are applied to the alphabets. Homework to master strokes. Day 3-4: Learn and practice alphabets (both capital and normal characters). During the class you also can try different size of brush, pick some characters to make a words and practice on those. Homework to write something you like. Day 5: This day you can relax a little bit with watercolor painting at the beginning, also this helps to learn controlling the ink and brush, and for decoration on your calligraphy scrolls. Keep practicing alphabets but motivate them to be creative with the words to go far from the original samples. Homework to create different styles with the same words. Day 6: You will complete a calligraphy scroll by yourself. This session is as conclusion and also a surprise what you learn the past few days. At the end host will give a scrolls with watercolor painting on it and you will do a writing on that, and you also can paint on that scroll as well to make your own calligraphy scrolls.
