More About This Experience
Culinary maestro and travel show superstar Anthony Bourdain proclaimed on his show, No Reservations, that the Lechon of Cebu was the best in the world. We concur! And being the food-snobs that we are, we were not content with the average Lechon found inside the city of Cebu and so we started our quest beyond the city and into the countryside. It took us a while but we struck gold on the outskirts of Talisay City (approx. 1.5 hrs away from Cebu City) at the farmhouse of Carlo and Family. The family prepares the Lechon in the traditional Filipino way and have been doing so for several generations now and the recipe has remained unchanged. The taste? Nothing short of A-HA-Mazing!
We've designed this Lechon feast for an offbeat way of spending your vacation time in Cebu. The Lechon will be prepared over an open flame and take about 4 hours to fully cook, so while Carlo meticulously prepares the Lechon, you can sit back, relax and sip on a cold drink while soaking in the Cebuano countryside with your friends and family. If you're looking for other tips while you're in Cebu then feel free to interact with Carlo and family to hear their thoughts. Normally in a Filipino setting, once the Lechon is ready, all manners generally go out the window and everyone just dives right in and if you're thinking "nahh, I can restrain myself', we dare you! :p
INCLUDES: Lechon, Rice, Water and Pig Blood Stew
EXCLUDES: Other food and drinks (if you'd like us to make the arrangements then please select add-ons below)
Note: this is Carlo's family home so the family will most likely be present in the premises throughout.
Feel free to bring your own speakers to spice up the experience
The activity takes place in Talisay city which is about 15km from Cebu City
Note that this experience takes place in the countryside so there maybe farm animals running around
If you are not selecting the drink add-on, please bring along your own drinks and snacks.
Recommended to bring mosquito repellant specially during rainy days
The Barina family have been hosting special lechon parties for their foreign friends since 2012. This has started when one of the sons, Wilbet, started working for a French restaurant and invited some of the people...
We had an outstanding experience! The entire thing was amazing, from watching the preparation through the delicious meal. The family was gracious, welcoming, and fun to be with, making it comfortable for us to be in their home. We didn't realize that we would have a Backstreet facilitator with us the entire time, but that really added to the experience, too. One note for people in the future, which we were not aware of, is that the pig shows up very much alive at the start of the course, and its demise is a part of the experience -- not something that everyone has to watch, but the squeals are hard to ignore or miss. Overall, a highly memorable highlight of our trip to Cebu!

This is the real way to enjoy the Lechon! Had heard tons about the Lechon of Cebu and it sure did live up to the Hype at the farm house of Carlo and family. Finishing up an entire Lechon is not a task for a couple, of course, so we managed to gather 7 more people and booked this. It take roughly about 4 hours for the Lechon to get ready and that's ample time to work up the appetite and bond over a few SMB's! Tip: once the lechon is served by Carlo, first go for the skin and then for the ribs! ;)
