Things to do in Battambang

Established in the 11th century as part of the Angkor empire, Battambang is an industrial town known for being the leading producer of rice in Cambodia. While it features less prominently on travelers' itinerary, it is the 3rd biggest city in Cambodia with over 180,000 people. Travelers who come to here love Battambang's key attraction, the bamboo train, where you can see locals whizzing about on the train tracks in both directions, powered by their hands, and when they meet, one party will graciously get off the track, along with his entire train car before assembling again and going on their way.

A relatively undeveloped town for tourism, you will find relatively fewer things to do in Battambang, but also less touts and tourist built attractions, giving you a more authentic taste and perspective of local Cambodian life, compared to they party vibe of Sihanoukville, the throngs at Siem Reap or the businesses in Phnom Penh. That said, there are still a bunch of passionate locals serving up great things to do in Battambang! Check out the Backstreet selection of the best things to do in Battambang.
