More About This Experience
'Borobudur is Borobudur' as one historian famously said, conveying simply that there is nothing quite like the Borobudur experience! At dawn, as you witness the mist shrouded plains and hear the first call of the birds, it becomes effortless to imagine yourself time travel to that ancient era of Hindu and Buddhist kingdoms when magnificent monuments were raised to the heavens in expression of their cultural and religious devotions. And as the mist slowly begins to lift with the rising sun to reveal the totality of Borobudur's architectural masterpiece, it sets the perfect backdrop for a morning exploring this timeless monument of Javanese history.
Often times, as travelers we find ourselves in a city dashing through must-see sights and attractions without really immersing ourselves wholly, and that's fine. Not all attractions warrant such in-depth exploration, and after all, it comes down to individual preferences. Other times however, despite our best efforts to explore a place earnestly, it's difficult to arrange something reliable. As travelers we're perpetually wary and defensive toward pushy guides who offer their services and naturally so, how are we to know if they're any good?
Understanding that a rich experience of Borobudur cannot be done without a guided tour and that the lack of proper information for reliable tours to Borobudur may prevent some of us from having a "complete' experience, we put together this tour for our guests.

This tour is perfect for budding photographers (or those seeking an Insta perfect post) as Budi is passionate about photography himself and will point out the best spots and angles for pictures. He also has a unique brand of humour and will use this when sharing anecdotes about the history of Borobudur. Really appreciated that he even came to look for us in the parking lot upon arrival bearing raincoats as we had been caught off guard by the rain.

We opted to skip the sunrise tour cause there are literally hundreds of people and we were glad. We left Yogyakarta at 6am to start our tour before the heat set in and it was great, not many people at the temple and we got to take our time with photos.
We were picked up on time from the hotel and met Budi at the temple. Budi did a great job explaining the history and how the temple was built. He also explained a the stories and teachings of the reliefs which was super interesting. Budi also knew how to take all the great photo shots which was super helpful!
Borobodur took about 1.5hours and then visited Mendut which took about half an hour. The drive up from Yogyakarta was very comfortable and easier (and cheaper) than organising it ourselves.

We were well taken care from pick-up until being brought back to our hotel. We enjoyed the quiet atmosphere during sunrise at Borobudur and the hustle and bustle at Prambanan. Seeing these examples of architecture and learning about the circumstances of their creating makes you humble and starts a thinking process.
