More About This Experience

Many travel to Laos in search of serenity and peace, finding the quiet country a refuge among the rapidly developing neighbours of Cambodia, Vietnam and Thailand. However, to find true peace, it is not just the place that plays a part. More importantly, you have got to look inside yourself and then put yourself in the right environment to experience serendipity. In this zen journey, you will visit a local temple, meet with a monk who will teach you the art of meditation and you can see how they meditate as well. Learn various techniques in the hour long session immersed in the tranquility of the temple and surrounded by novices. Thereafter, head over to a local sauna house where you'll be able to enjoy a traditional sauna session that's spiced with Lao herbs and flowers, creating a very distinct aroma that is said to heal your body and tissues. Ponder over life issues and head into the sauna as frequent as you desire before ending of the session with a traditional 1 hour Lao massage!

awful. The monk wasn't answering his phone so we were left standing in the courtyard of the temple whilst the host tried to sort things out - but his English was not great and he didn't tell us hat was going on. He said we'd do the meditation later but was unsure when- then we went to the massage place with the correct money as per backstreet academy's invoice and were told it was not enough money! At this point we decided to just leave as it was such a terrible experience. We found WiFi and immediately contact back street academy via instant messaging who were very sorry and would refund us our deposit (have not received yet but I'm sure we will). I would definitely use backstreet academy again as they offer such fabulous experiences but with caution..

It is a lovely afternoon to stay in the temple. Quiet and peaceful. Learning 4 kinds of meditation methods with the host, I love walking meditation the most. Watch your every steps, not in a hurry and focus on the moment. After the practice, the host answer my questions, although there's little bit language barrier, I feel blessing and happy :)

This was the highlight of my stay in Vientiane! Not only we got to see beautiful temples, but we actually learned meditation from a monk! He spoke good English and we appreciated his teaching. The steam sauna was very unique and we loved the experience! Lao massage was excellent too. Our guide - Lee was exceptional with very good English. Highly recommended!!!

The lao sauna and massage was the highlight of our stay in Vientiane. Meditation was basic but good in a nice little local temple. The monk who taught us didn't speak English but it wasn't a problem because of the translator sent by backstreet. After that we went to a local spa place which was amazing. It gave a true local experience - drinking tea in between sauna sessions. Followed by a rejuvenating lao massage. Highly recommended.
