More About This Experience

Although Phonesavan is not a famous tourist site in Laos, but its mystery of the plain of jars is known throughout the world. After pick up from your hotel, we will head to visit the Plain of Jars site where thousands of giant stone jars of unknown ancient origin are scattered over the plains. No one can say for sure how it ended up here, but myths and stories are aplenty - which you will hear about on your trip. After visiting this distinctive plain of jars. We will visit a local village where local artisans make their own spoon from scrap metal of the bomb since the Indochina war. Continuing to visit the Russian tank which was here after the secret war of the US in the mid 1970s. Once we see the Russian tank, we visit Muang Khoun, the former capital of Xieng Khuang province. It's a small town about 30 kilometers out of Phonesavanh, but it's an unique place and its varied ruined temples include PiaWat temple which is one of the oldest Buddhist temple in this area and it's destroyed by enemy fire during the Indochina wars; That Foun is also another highlight stupa which was built in the late 1500s. It's an impressive stupa made of brick with a 30-meter tall. Following by visiting the UXO Survivor Information Centre: This NGO is doing an amazing work helping the victims rebuild their lives after an accidents from a bomb injury by traing wives of victims to weave so they can get more income to help the family. Finally, we visit MAG(Mines Advisory Group) center where they focus on finding and making safe unexploded bombs, sot the people can safely work on their fields.
