More About This Experience
While the contemporary global maker culture has begun to take root among the youth in Cambodia, there are those who've been part of the original maker culture for several centuries all the way back to when Angkor Wat was built. And it will be to these original makers with roots to ancient Angkor who you will be learning from during the course of this day. :)
We will get the day started with our host Ratana Savouth, a master in the art of handmade pottery where you will be able to make anything, be it a vase, a pot, even a bust if you're up to it! Just show us a picture of what you would like and we can make it happen :) The next leg of the maker marathon will have you visit a coconut carving workshop with one of our most popular hosts, Sok Chea, while making a key chain is recommended (because it's relatively simple) you can explore your creative side and also venture out into making cutlery and other decorative pieces that suit your fancy.
With your coconut carvings securely placed in your newspaper bag, we will head for another extremely specialized art form, candle carving, something only practiced only by a handful in Cambodia. Here you will learn to turn slabs of wax into intricate and complex designs of your choice. So there you have it, at the end of the Maker's marathon you will have these DIY souvenirs you would have made with your own hands under the watchful eyes of Cambodia's original makers!
