More About This Experience

These cotton bags are also the monks' best companions, carrying everything from food to umbrellas, water bottles to books. A simple bag that embodies everything about the culture here. In this course you will be able to make your own bag made with cotton cloth! Feel free to customize it to your own liking with pockets of various types and sizes. Go classic rustic with this bag and the locals will instantly take a liking to you and when they find out you made it on your own they'll love you! If you have extra time after finishing the basic design, you can try to embroider some patterns on your bag as well! You can go for the classic elephants commonly seen in the night markets or even a design of your own, our instructor should be able to teach you how to do it barring the most complicated designs. Note: Bring your own drinking water

This was a great afternoon out. My translator Por met me at the hotel and took me to Da Thor's home a little bit out of town. She is a beautiful and patient host who I had lots of laughs with as I learnt how to sew with a machine for the first time. If you have never sewn before this is a great first time learning experience. The bag turned out awesome. It was a fantastic experience and I highly recommend it!

Found Backstreet academy by accident and decided to take two different courses, bag making and wood carving. Very good experience and got to see how local people live and work. And was also nice to chat with translators and hear interesting facts :) thank you!

This was an amazing experience. i couldn't have done without backstreet acadamy. i was alone with the translator and Da Thor and learned how to use a manual sewing machin and make a bag which i am so happy about. But it brought me much more than this. I got some great tips from the translator to meet some locals. And i really know where my money is going, and it is going to the people that need it directly, not like in other tours. Backstreet academy give locals an amazing opportunity. The combination with the translator makes the activity possible and it is an awesome was to meet locals directly. thank you backstreet academy !

Great for maker people to try your hand at creating something traditional from your own hands rather than just buying from the market. They make much more from teaching than haggling with tourists at the market for sure. Nice community initiative
