More About This Experience

Looking for a real hand-on experience while you are in Luang Prabang? Come and participate in our wooden bowl carving workshop. It's great idea to take a break from working with your computer screen and spending a morning or an afternoon carving your own bowl with the wood carving master who has carved the royal palace work and many temples in this heritage town. Wooden works are used widely in Laos such as bowl, spoon, serving trays, wood tray for stir sticky rice and flower pot. In this course you will get to carve a small or medium bowl and a small spoon or you can bring your own design and ask the artisan to help with. *The base price you will be making a 20-25 cm bowl and there can be an add-on for a 40 cm bowl which will take 6-7 hours Note: Please bring your own snack and drinking water just in case you are hungry if you take the morning session.

Additional Information:

  • There is no pickup provided. Location of the wood carving workshop is across the river on the bamboo bridge, beside Dyen Sabai Restaurant
  • There might be other people on the same experience
  • Bring a raincoat or umbrella if it's rainy season (May to Oct)
  • If you are unable to finish the carving in the stipulated duration, the artisan will assist you to finish it and send it to your hotel at no extra cost
  • You might want to bring some snacks and water for the experience

This was a very relaxing and interesting way to spend an afternoon in Luang Prabang. Our tutor was patient and helpful and made sure we had a decent bowl to take away. Would recommend to anyone who enjoys crafts or wants to make amends for their poor performance in school woodwork classes.

Amazing! Lon showed us his skills and helped us carve out our bowls with detail. He's a really impressive Craftsman. The experience was great - be prepared to be outside.
