More About This Experience

Every wondered how people high up in the Himalayas get all the energy and stamina to go about their daily lives, particularly those involved with labour intensive work? Well, the answer lies in the diet. And from all the various foods, the humble Thenduk has to be a chief source of nutrition for many. Not only does it give stamina but it tastes absolutely delicious too! Originally a Tibetan dish, Thenduk is a hand pulled noodle soup, but the Thenduk you'll find in Nepal is consumed mostly by the Sherpa and Tibetan communities. And while many that prepare this delicacy at home still prefer to prepare it the traditional way, there are many who've taken the various spices used in Nepali curries and given it their own twist. :) Once such individual is our host, Nima Sherpa, and boy does she make a Super Thenduk or what. The pictures in the gallery above illustrate the process but we have another Himalayan super food to go with this dish for you, Butter Tea. Yes, you read that right, Butter and Salted Tea. Might not sound appetising to Tea purists, but trust us, once you get a taste, there's no going back! Note: Please indicate whether you want a non-vegetarian (buffalo or chicken) or vegetarian Thenduk when sending the booking request. Also let us know if you have any food allergies. Please note that if you have selected an add on for pick up then we use local taxis.

Additional Information:

  • Exact pick-up location address along with map direction will be sent to your email instantly after booking
  • Be at the pick up location at the tour start time.
  • Inform us of any allergies
  • Please let us know if you prefer vegetarian or non-vegetarian option

Well, admittedly my knowledge of Nepali cuisine was limited to momos and dal bhat so when I saw this mountain food I knew I had to try to learn to make it. I pulled my friend along for this course and we sure had an enjoyable time with our patient host, and boy was the bowl of Thenduk filling! Thanks for the good times!
