More About This Experience

Hoi An has a reputation of being one of the most 'touristy' towns in Vietnam and that might put some people off a visit, however, if you are looking to sample some of the finest fare Vietnam has to offer, Hoi An makes for the ultimate gourmet getaway. And not only can you rampage your way through regional cuisine, you can learn to cook it too. Join Backstreet Academy's host Mrs Pham, for a culinary adventure that starts at home. True to our offering, this cooking class takes place in the household of a local housewife whose passion for cooking is palpable not only in her food but also when you interact with her. Whats special about the experience is that you will have a unique opportunity to visit the market by boat to buy the local ingredients for the class. Our host will then teach you local dishes that truly represent the local flavors as the locals appreciate it. At our host's riverside lodging, before visiting the market, you can discuss with her to figure out what you would be interested in and then get it started. She has a personal menu for you to consult to make everything easier. In case you make decision already then just inform us by message in advance. Come and enjoy an unique experience in Hoi An with Backstreet Academy! Take one more step closer to the local life through its cuisine culture. :)

We had a great time cooking with Ms. Ha. Since we're vegetarians, we made spring rolls, mango salad and Vietnamese pancakes. It was great learning new things. Thank you and I'll make these recipes again.

The trip to the market was fun, so was the cooking class. Ms. Ha is a very sweet lady, her english is limited but she means well.

We had a delightful time with Mrs. Ha! We learned all about how to make the most delicious Vietnamese food, and the market visit by boat was surprising and fun -- a truly unique perspective on life in the city with some great views from the boat. We were completely stuffed with an amazing three-course meal that we got to help prepare, and armed with new knowledge of Vietnamese dishes to test out on our friends and loved ones. :) A must-do for anyone visiting Hoi An!

We loved this class. We started with a boat trip to the local market. The market was great, lots of interesting food to see. Then we cooked 3 dishes: fried spring rolls with prawns and onion, rice paper rolls with prawns, and cau lau. Our host had prepared the pork the night before because it takes 2 hours to cook. A fun class, very delicious, highly recommend it.
