More About This Experience

Many online blogs and travel guides claim that 'Vietnam is a foodies' paradise'. What that meant exactly we could never quite tell. However, in creating this listing, we found the basis for our own claim toward's Vietnam being a foodies' paradise indeed. This vegetarian cooking class offers such a rich and diverse mix of flavors and textures that even meat lovers would appreciate the wholesomeness of the meal. The clever ways flavors are heightened or diminished, textures achieved and the dish put together is so simple and sincere that it all makes for a delightful experience. Vegetarian food in the restaurants might be a convenient option for all the vegan travelers on the road, but to really experience an exalted form of vegetarian cuisine, this is a must do, must try. Vegetarian Menu (please choose one dish from each category) Soup Sweet and sour hotpot Vegetarian soup Rice noodle soup Main dish Cao Lau noodle Minced clams with paper rice cake Natural flavour Fried noodle with vegetable and tofu Papaya salad Mango salad Spring roll Dessert Green bean sweet soup dessert Corn dessert Banana dessert Milk tea

We were shown how to prepare three vegetarian dishes using tofu ( as that was what I requested ). It was hands on and and we also learnt how to make display vegetable flowers aswell!! I would recommend this cooking class, as it was clean , well presented and everything was organised ready for when we arrived .

My 10 year old daughters and I took a vegetarian cooking class in HoiAn. We really enjoyed it. It was a no frills experience with an older woman who had a roadside restaurant. We made spring rolls, Pho and a mango salad-- all traditional dishes but the ones we made had more uncommon ingredients. For example, the spring rolls had tofu, taro and vermicelli- they were fantastic! Very much off the beaten path, but clean and the woman even used bottled water when she was showing us how to make the Vietnamese Pho. There are a million cooking classes that are advertised in HoiAn, but I was very happy with a less touristy environment.

Great experience! I had no idea how easy it was to cook Vietnamese food. The host and translator that accompanied us was very friendly and extremely hospitable. The translator, Nga was also very knowledgeable on the local background and history. We enjoyed the cooking, the food and a treat in the end to a platter of mixed tropical fruits (which I think was part of the hospitable nature and not part of the lesson we paid for). Great!

What a delightful experience. I really enjoyed learning that Vietnamese food, at least the vegetarian bit is quite simple to prepare but yet can be quite exciting. Each step was explained carefully and the host did a good job of telling us the important bits. Our translator always translated whatever we asked for and we were well taken care of by both of them. It was a good balance of observing, preparing and doing the actual cooking. All in all, I can really recommend this class to others. It shows you the real house of a local Vietnamese and how they live and eat. The translator is also knowledgeable and funny and like a friend.
