More About This Experience
With the passing of time, we've noticed that the appreciation of handcrafted products, be it in ceramics, leather or wood, is on the decline as working with one's hand to create crafts as a leisurely activity is less appealing to the newer generations. There however are small groups and individuals who are keeping the tradition alive.
In this backstreet experience, we'll introduce you to a hand's on maker's experience of some of the best craftsmen in Hanoi. We'll start the tour with the traditional toy figurine workshop, or To He. To He, since time immemorial has been celebrated by the children of Vietnam as a toy. It is originally made of rice flour and made to dry for the toys to take form.
Next, we will go on to make bracelets, rings and necklaces out of trinkets. Our next host owns a boutique shop in town selling these handcrafted jewelry.
As an optional hands on experience, is the leather crafting workshop where you will be able to make your own leather goods, be it a wallet or a messenger bag, our young talented hosts will take you through the process of designing, cutting, stitching and gluing together your very own leather product.
