More About This Experience
Learn the art of Batik from a local artist in Chiang Mai and get to bring home a unique souvenir handcrafted by your own hands!
From introducing the material and tools to painting dye colours, you could know all how the Batik art form came to Thailand and the differences here compared to other places. Create your own masterpiece on a 12"x12" handkerchief or choose to do it on a T-shirt with the add-on option (additional charge).
The course will guide you into the world of batik. First, explain all the materials and equipment on the table. Secondly, trace the design on to your own fabric. Then, the most exciting part -- using canting, wax over the design and painting the colours. After all the work, remove and fix the wax as the last steps.

My dad, Mr. Somboon was a government officer who has an extensive knowledge of textile industry. When he retried, my sister and I started helping him with the textile business. We have trained local people to learn...
Wonderful workshop in an established studio that creates beautifully dyed scarves and wear. Weaving is also available and you can order tailored clothes. I had a wonderful day learning batik. So much fun.

I love drawing and painting and so this class was right up my alley. I was engrossed in the process for the full 6.5 hours. There were only 2 of us that day but we both made complex designs so only had time for one piece. If I were to do it over I would ask Nan if I could make 2 pieces and I would choose simpler designs. The finishing steps are done in the factory so we got to see how that operates. Just a wonderful day from start to finish.
I was so engrossed in my project that I forgot to take photos. The studio is an open-air affair and we did our work at a large table.

My two teenage daughters and I had a wondeful day batik making with Nan. She was extremely helpful, we made two items each and she talked us through the whole process. We had fun with her niece and nephew who joined in and helped us and spoke very good english too. We couldnt recommend this more highly, as we just loved it.

It was such a wonderful experience to learn creating a batik from nan. The progress is not difficult but it's important to be concentrated :) nan is very friendly and patient lady. I feel comfortable staying with her :) It took me around four hours to complete a lovely handkerchief with floral patterns. Highly recommend her class to all of you.
