More About This Experience

Handcrafted bamboo sound amplifiers from Cebu have all the hallmarks of good design - simple, sturdy and sustainable. The designers at Loudbasstard have pioneered this design and they've also carved a niche for themselves in the mobile accessories industry. In turn, this has also encouraged a number of Cebuano artists and crafters to follow suit and there are now several crafters in Cebu and around the Philippines hand crafting these pieces of functional art. Greg is one such crafter who's taken a keen interest towards making his own versions of the bamboo amplifiers and he's excited to host anyone who wants to learn how to make their own bamboo sound amplifiers. For this workshop you will be working on everything from scratch (literally!), beginning with picking your preferred bamboo size then cutting it down to size based on the diameter of the bamboo. Take note that you will be working with hand-saws and other sharp tools and while this isn't exactly back breaking work, it can be tiring particularly on humid days. So if you're looking for a truly unique souvenir from Cebu then there's nothing better than getting hands on in making this bamboo amplifier- Cebu's contribution to the world of sustainable design and something all Cebuanos are proud of.

I knew we can buy these amplifiers off the shelf in Manila but I had no idea I could actually learn to make on for myself too. I already had the original version of this but I decided to make one anyway for my little brother to surprise him on his birthday. I think it came out pretty good, hopefully... Read more
