Fresh Nepal Orphanage at a Backstreet Pottery Workshop in Kathmandu, Nepal
There’s nothing happier for us than to see the children having so much fun with the clay and the wheel, exercising their creativity and learning from the master potter. More than 15 children had a fun filled afternoon just learning about art and a classic Nepali tradition that they’ve never had the chance to try their hand at.
Nanyang Technological University(NTU) Heritage Club at an Apsara Dance experience in Siem Reap, Cambodia
It’s a joy to host the NTU students and see such a big group of both genders having a great time experiencing the fine art of Apsara dance! The large numbers also meant we could actually have a performance with the full roster of dancers needed! It was also heartwarming to see Singaporeans interested in the heritage of other countries and taking part in this in-depth experience as a group. Backstreet Academy is a Singapore company too!
Concordia University Students on a Customized Full Village Experience in Siem Reap, Cambodia
In this fully customized trip, we organized a number of activities for Concordia University, including a trip to the floating village, Ox cart tours, local Khmer picnics, and a slew of other local activities with one of the star hosts at Backstreet Academy, Mr Soy Kosal. Led by the Dean of Concordia University, Mr Eugene Kim, the students were doing this as part of their experiential learning in a Masters program of International Development. We were delighted to show them the operations of Backstreet Academy, what we stand for as a social enterprise and a few other notable social enterprises in Cambodia.
Hong Kong International School at a Backstreet Pottery & Bark Art Class in Phnom Penh, Cambodia
One of our first groups to visit Backstreet Academy, we had the pleasure of hosting the HK International School in Phnom Penh with a number of activities, including pottery, bark art, leather carving and apsara dancing! It was great to see the cultural exchange between the backstreet hosts, facilitators and the students from Hong Kong who had never been to Cambodia.
